As a pink lapel ribbon signifies "Cancer Awareness" and a red lapel ribbon represents "AIDS Awareness", the Psychiatric Foundation has launched a "Suicide Awareness" campaign using an international orange lapel ribbon, the color of the Golden Gate Bridge. This idea came from the mother of a teenager who took his life by jumping from the bridge in 2005. We plan to distribute these ribbons widely to call attention to the need for a suicide barrier on the bridge.

To receive a "Suicide Awareness" lapel ribbon, send a stamped and self-addressed envelope to Psychiatric Foundation of Northern California (PFNC), 251 Post Street, Suite 312, San Francisco, CA 94108. To inquire about larger quantities, send an e-mail to
jtagart@pfnc.org with "Suicide Awareness" in the subject line.
